Constructed in two parts as the old man from the tale of the 'Tongue-cut sparrow' and his woven fishing basket which is divided into three tiers, the figure designed in matte and polished gold lacquer in a gold costume patterned with pine and paulownia in gold and silver, his leggings black and the kerchief and inner robe visible at the neck silver, the detachable 'bamboo' fishing pole also fundame; the 'raffia' box gold and black lacquer within raised gold lacquer edges and struts, nashiji on the interior--figure 6 7/8in. (17.5cm.) high, box 5¼in. (13.3cm.) long
