(early 20th century), attributed to heian zohiko
Of rectangular shape with slightly arched lid decorated on the exterior in gold and silver hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with pine and cherries on rounded hills, bands of mist and a large gilt-silver moon, the hills patterned with okibirame and shaded with kimpun and nashiji, the background roiro-nuri; the interior decorated with maple leaves of gold foil, bright kirigane and fundame maple leaves scattered on a meandering stream of combed lines of gold lacquer, random dots of moisture inlaid in mother-of-pearl and the kinji ground ornamented by mura-nashiji and silver and gold togidashi, the footed base roiro with extensive nashiji, in wood storage box inscribed Heian Zohiko saku (by Heian Zohiko)--15½in.
