LATE QING DYNASTY
The central field woven with a central, shaped oval cartouche enclosing pairs of birds and pagodas against a ground of lotus scroll and with two dragons at opposite ends spewing scroll-like flames, within further bands of lotus scroll and the eight Buddhist emblems at the sides, the two shorter ends with stylized rock and wave borders, all picked out in aubergine, rust, green, cream and blue, reserved on a gold metallic ground, woven with a five-character inscription at the top reading Ning shou gong beiyong, which may be translated, 'For use in the Palace of Tranquil Longevity'
