A CARVED LONGQUAN CELADON BALUSTER WINE JAR AND COVER
EARLY MING DYNASTY

The bulbous shoulder carved with four quatrefoil cartouches, each centered by a large character reserved on a diaper ground, and separated by a blossoming sprig, all above a band of upright petals, the domed cover also carved with four characters reserved on a diaper ground below a gilded bud finial, covered inside and out with a glaze of sea-green color

The characters on the jar, Tian lu zhi mei, may be translated, 'The beauty of heaven's emolument'
