A MING LONGQUAN CELADON CARVED BULB BOWL
15TH CENTURY
The shallow, heavily potted vessel supported on three lion mask and paw feet, carved on the exterior with a band of loose floral scroll bordered by bands of molded florettes at the base and just below the flat, incurved rim, applied with a rich celadon-green glaze draining to a paler color on the raised areas, and stopping short of the center of the interior and base exposing the biscuit burnt a rich brick red, the center of the interior unusually decorated with a lightly molded lotus blossom borne on leafy fronds; together with a small Ming longquan celadon tripod censer, modeled after an archaic bronze ding, freely carved on the exterior with stylized peony below the flat, everted rim applied with a pair of rope-twist handles, covered inside and out with a sea-green glaze darkening in the recesses
