The bodly carved Greek-key seat rail of this bench, in combination with the lion-form legs, relates to the documented work of Benjamin Goodison, in particular the suite of mahogany and parcel-gilt seat furniture supplied to the 1st Viscount Folkestone for the gallery at Longford Castle (see R. Edwards and P. Macquoid, The Dictionary of English Furniture, rev. edn., 1954, vol. III, p. 177, fig. 148
