Lot Essay

The present example is the larger of the two table top models of the snake lamp, the rarest of the three models designed by Brandt. 'La Tentation', the floor lamp model represented in the ensuing lot, is the largest of the models. See Christie's New York, December 8, 1990, lot 418 for another example of the medium-sized serpent lamp, which sold for a record price at auction for this model.
