The present table is part of a group of furniture which formed Eyre de Lanux's private collection in New York. In addition to carpets designed by Evelyn Wyld and furniture, sculptures and paintings of her own design (see Christie's New York, December 13, 1996, lots 236-242), the interior of Lanux's apartment included this small side table, designed by Jean-Michel Frank. The refined taste of Eyre de Lanux, particularly her sense of proportion and scale and tendency toward modern, abstract design, made her one of the most sophisticated Artistes-Décorateurs of the period. Therefore, it is not surprising that she would turn to the works of Jean-Michel Frank and include them in her interiors, combined with her own furniture, and carpets and wall-hangings by Evelyn Wyld.
