Provenance

Noël C. Moore, signature and inscription on front free endpaper: "Noël C. Moore See her letter dated to me in 1893." The letter Moore refers to was written in September 1893 "when five-year old Noel became ill, she sent him a letter all about Peter Rabbit and his adventures in Mr. McGregor's garden"--Linder, p. 4. This picture letter was the origin of The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
