POTTER, BEATRIX. The Roly-Poly Pudding. New York: Frederick Warne & Co., [1908]. Pictorial title-page, 18 color illustrations, and numerous text illustrations (printed in dark brown). Small 4to, original maroon cloth over bevelled boards, upper cover with inset color pictorial label, upper cover and spine lettered in greyish-blue (title outlined in gilt on upper cover), color pictorial endpapers (Quinby V [at front and VI [at rear]), spine ends and corners a little worn. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, with address on title-page: "36 East 22nd Street," and no printer's imprint. Not in Quinby, who describes a later American edition having a later New York address on the title-page (i.e. after 1920). This American edition differs from the English in the following ways: (1) Text and textual illustrations are printed in a darker brown (almost black); (2) the title-page is not illustrated in color; (3) there is no mock armorial bookplate on half-title verso; and (4) this edition does not have the small drawing of Samuel Whiskers on the copyright page (instead a kitten).
