Ralph Cannon was one of the two children of the Hill Top Farm Manager, John Cannon and his wife. He and his sister Betsy were the dedicatees of The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck, (published in 1908). The Cannon children make an appearance in the book as well on p. 14, and their mother appears feeding her poultry on p. 8. These volumes were given by Potter to Ralph Cannon as Christmas gifts between 1909-1911.
