An original illustration for Potter's version of the tale of Bluebeard. Sturges, an American illustrator, was chosen to do the illustrations and they provide a wonderful dark and brooding quality which complements the story. Potter especially liked her portrayal of the woman and she writes to Mr McKay, "Do thank Katharine Sturges from me for interpreting just what I meant!" (Linder, p. 325). The illustration from this drawing appears on page [25] in the published book. See lot #.
