[BANNER, DELMAR H., artist]. Portrait Beatrix Potter. 1979. 430 x 303 mm. (16 7/8 x 11 7/8 in.); matted and framed. Signed at the lower right. Not examined out of frame.
A fine three-quarter length watercolor portrait of Potter as a young woman standing before the rolling hills of the Lake District landscape. Delmar Banner and his wife, Josephine, had developed a friendship with Beatrix in 1935 which lasted until her death. Potter admired Banner's work and purchased several pieces from the artist. This version of his portrait of Beatrix in her youth was commissioned from Banner by Doris Frohnsdorff in 1979. An earlier version was painted in 1969 for Leslie Linder, and which was also used for the cover of his book, The History of the Writings of Beatrix Potter (1971).
