Maker's mark of Whiting Mfg. Co., no. 8F, retailed by Theodore B. Starr, circa 1880
Baluster, with curved handle, with spot-hammered finish, traces of gilding to interior, engraved under handle with a sea-plant growing from coral and applied scallop shell, one side applied with large bird swooping into fronds and flowers, below flanked by fish, one swimming through sea-grass, the other side with fully modelled bird landing onto copper headed applied and engraved cattails, one frond applied with copper headed fly--7½in. (19cm.) high, 30oz.
