The cylindrical vase with short waisted neck moulded with two gilt shishi-head handles, decorated in gilt and colored enamels with herons wading in a stream or perched on vines of purple and white wisteria, the shoulder encircled by a collar of gilt floral scroll and large gilt Shimazu crests alternating with gilt and red enamel Tokugawa crests below bands of geometric patterns at the neck, the foot enamelled in red and gilt with key-fret and chrysanthemum panels above a pattern of gilt dots, signed in gilt on the recessed base, the three last characters partially rubbed away--9 7/8in. (25.1cm.) high
