Lot Essay

This table bears similarities to pieces from the workshop of cabinetmaker George Bullock (d. 1818) of Liverpool and London. The parquetry design in contrasting exotic woods combined with a stylized brass-inlaid border appears on a cabinet reputedly branded G.BULLOCK and illustrated in B.Reade, Regency Antiques, 1953, pl.60. Another side cabinet with similar parquetry inlay is illustrated in C.Wainwright, ed., George Bullock Cabinet-Maker, 1988, p.140, no.40. The slightly unusual base relates to a group of games tables in mahogany or oak, an example of which is illustrated in C.Wainwright, op.cit., p.110, no.47.
