A GEORGE III SATINWOOD WRITING-TABLE
Late 18th century
Crossbanded overall in amaranth and veneered on all four sides, the eared rectangular three-quarter galleried top inset with later red leather, with a cedar-lined frieze drawer and on fluted turned tapering legs joined by a concave-fronted undertier, on later casters, with plastic label of Norman Adams Ltd.

Lot Essay

A satinwood and amaranth display collector's cabinet inlaid with Wedgwood medallions, with an identical leg design, was sold Sotheby's London, 3 May 1996, lot 10. Both are similar to a bonheur-du-jour by Seddon & Co. in the Victoria and Albert Museum, illustrated in V. Woolf, 'Seddon Family Furniture', p. 89, fig. 1.
