George Jones was the son of the engraver John Jones, and began his studies at the Royal Academy in 1801 and was made a member there in 1924. Highly regarded for his history subjects and battle scenes, Jones accompanied Wellington at Waterloo and served in the English army which subsequently occupied Paris.
