woodcut in colors, 1904, on Japan, second (final) state, a very fine, atmospheric impression printed in the manner of a monotype, signed and inscribed 'Holzschnitt (Handruk)' in white ink on the support sheet, trimmed to the subject and tipped down at the reverse of the sheet corners to a gray wove paper support sheet as issued (one corner with an attendant short tear), inscribed with artist's name and 'Hugellandschaft No. 15' in red chalk on the reverse of the support sheet, a very unobtrusive vertical fold, showing mostly as the reverse of the support sheet, otherwise in very good condition, framed

Lot Essay

By late 1904 Kandinsky's printmaking style had softened considerably, the carefully considered selection of paper and the selection of watercolor as the medium result here in an impression which is printed in a monotype manner and which evokes a landscape seen through a fine mist.
