THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS PREPARES TO DEFEND NEW YORK
A letter of transmittal, written in the crucial early period just after the Lexington and Concord battles, when Congress began actively preparing for war by requisitioning supplies and munitions: "I am Directed by the Congress to Transmit [to] your Convention their Resolve, and to Desire an immediate Compliance with it so far as it Respects the furnishing [of] Batterys [with] Provisions, stores, etc..."
