JOYCE, JAMES. Printed menu for the "Déjeuner 'Ulysse,'" a luncheon held on 27 June 1929 to commemorate (a bit tardily) the publication of the French translation of Ulysses in February 1929 and the 25th anniversary of Bloomsday on 16 June, Paris, 1929. 12mo, 4-page leaflet, the menu printed on the third page, a trifle soiled, two slight fold tears. SIGNED BY JAMES JOYCE AND 13 OTHERS ATTENDING THE CELEBRATION (on the printed first page), including Adrienne Monnier (hostess for the affair), Paul Valéry, Jules Romains, and Léon-Paul Fargue. "A chartered bus carried the guests from the rue de l'Odéon in Paris to Les Vaux-de-Cernay, a tiny village beyond Versailles, chosen because it contained the Hotel Leopold" (Richard Ellman, James Joyce, New York, 1982, p. 615). See Carlton Lake, No Symbols Where None Intended (Austin: HRC, 1984), no. 4 for another signed copy of this menu. RARE.
