Lot Essay

Consistant with Johns' recurring themes, each of the Color Numerals is independent yet also has an important role in the group of ten. Johns structured the set according to predetermined color commands. Beginning with the primary colors for Figure 0, and introducing the secondary colors in Figure I, a sequential movement is established. The artist's signature signals the change, as each print is signed with a pencil the same color as the top printed band.
