The original wax version of this sculpture was executed during the summer of 1913 by Richard Guino under the supervision of Renoir. Based on the figure in Renoir's painting Le Jugement de Paris from the same year, Venus is shown holding the golden apple given to her by Paris. The bronze version served as a model for the larger Venus Victorieuse, executed 1915-1916.
