With upraised trunk, the elephant standing on rocaille base chased with scrolls, shells, rocks and leaves, supporting a circular case draped in leafy scrolls and surmounted by a putto, the signed white enamel dial with arabic minute numerals enclosing roman chapters, gilt fleur-de-lis hands, the fine two-train movement with signed backplate, verge escapement with screw adjustment to crown wheel arbor, thread suspended pendulum, striking the hour and half hour on bell by means of crossed out numbered countwheel, arbor adjacent bell stand to adjust striking, c. 1750--19¼in. (49cm.) high
