In the form of a Trophy of Bacchus, comprising a pair of goats reaching for a basket of grapes above the clock case, supported by putti flanking a plinth inset with pierced frieze finely chased as a torch, vines and leafy scrolls, the moulded oval base applied with swags of fruit and raised on toupie feet, the white enamel dial with calendar ring enclosing arabic chapters, pierced gilt hands and blued steel calendar hand, the movement with anchor escapement, pendulum with thread suspension, striking the hour and half hour on bell by means of countwheel, c. 1790--17½in. (44.5cm.) high
