Lot Essay

The Tulip and Rose pattern, designed by William Morris, was first registered as a fabric on January 20, 1876. An example of this fabric, with a different color scheme is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (see Parry, Linda, William Morris Textiles, 1983, p.148, no.12)
