A SINO-TIBETAN GILT-LACQUERED BRONZE FIGURE OF AMITAYUS 17TH CENTURY
Depicting the Buddha of long life seated in padmasana on a boldly cast double lotus base, dressed in a loose skirt with incised flower scroll border falling in soft folds from the knees on to the flat base, a similarly decorated shawl draped over the shoulders from which trail billowing scarves entwined about the forearms, both hands held in dhyanamudra to cup the kalasa, now missing, wearing a five-tiered crown and ornate jewelry, including earrings, pectoral, arm and ankle bracelets, all set with semi-precious stones of lapis, turquoise and coral, his heart-shaped face cast with serene expression, and retaining extensive traces of the brownish- red lacquer extending to the torso, arms and feet, replaced glass base, usnisa damaged--16 1/2in. (42cm.) high
