AN UNUSUAL PINK-ENAMELLED UNDERGLAZE RED AND BLUE MOON FLASK QIANLONG SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD
The flattened circular body decorated on each side with a dragon leaping after a flaming pearl, executed in pink enamel over underglaze red, amidst scattered clouds and above a broad band of frothing waves, all in underglaze blue, as are the clouds on the cylindrical neck and the narrow bands of whorl pattern on the pair of handles, glaze chips to mouth rim--12 3/4in. (32.5cm.) high

Although it is unusual to find Qianlong marked underglaze red and blue vessels enameled in pink, a vase decorated with two phoenix amidst clouds in the Matsuoka Collection is illustrated in Sekai toji zenshu, revised edition, Vol. 15, pls. 92 and 93, and another is in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, included in the Illustrated Catalogue of Ch'ing Dynasty Porcelain, pl. 21
