Etienne-François Haro (1827-1897), painter, art expert, and restorer, also owned one of the most important art supply stores in Paris. As a painter, he was a pupil of Delacroix and Ingres. He was a particularly close friend of Ingres' whom he also supplied with the special paper the artist used for his portrait drawings (see lot 18). Upon the death of Ingres, Haro was put in charge of the sale of the paintings and drawings that remained in the studio.
