Lot Essay

Martin Dieterle dates this painting between 1829-1830, and considers it to be one of Corot's earliest views of Ville d'Avray. Corot never tired of painting this tiny hamlet. His father had purchased a country home there in 1817, and Corot was to record the trees, ponds and rivers around Ville d'Avray up until the last months of his life.
