Lot Essay

Jacobber was a pupil of Gerard van Spaendonck, and worked as a decorator for the porcelain factory at Sèvres. The present work, a rare canvas by this artist, can be can be compared to the Still Life of flowers in an Alabaster Vase with Fruit on a marble Ledge which was sold at Sotheby's, New York, May 19, 1994, lot 130 ($130,000). A porcelain plaque was made after that composition in 1837.
