A BYZANTINE GOLD AND GLASS BELT BUCKLE
circa 5th-6th century a.d.
With a plain ovoid clasp at one end, square in section, knotched to recieve the tongue, joined to the square plate which is divided into an octagonal cloison, the central section set with colorless glass, the corners set with blue glass (one missing), with a rotating cylinder at the other end for attachment of the belt
