A CYPRIOT LIMESTONE HEAD OF A WOMAN
circa late 5th to early 4th century b.c.
The oval face with a small chin, her lips pursed into a slight smile, with large almond-shaped lidded eyes beneath crisp, arching brows, with crinkly center-parted hair above the forehead protruding from under a somewhat conical, tight-fitting cap, with strands of hair emerging from the cap and falling down the back of the neck, crowned with a fillet of pointed leaves and small fruit, presumably olive, wearing two beaded necklaces with a rectangular central pendant, and elaborate ear caps composed of conical elements, together with seven-petalled rosette earrings with conical pendants, extensive surviving polychrome, including black for the irises and red for the hair
