The powerful animal depicted stepping forward, his left front hoof raised, his head lifted and turned slightly to the left, details of the musculature and the pliant folds of the dewlap naturalistically modelled, with forward curving horns above his projecting ears, the bulging eyes with incised pupils, irises and lashes, the nostrils indented, the poll a mass of thick, curling locks, the tassel of the tail against his right flank, with incised ridges of sagging flesh framing the underbelly

Found at Pompei circa 1780-1790 during excavations conducted at the request of Maria Cristina di Savoia, Queen of Naples. Subsequently inherited by Tomaso di Savoia Genova of Pistoia, and then his daughter Maria Adelaide di Savoia. Later in the collections of Vgs Parsi di Londrone, a Swiss private collector, and Sogo Life K.K.
