The city of Wesel, on the Rhine, Port Mahon, the capital city of Minorca, St. Davids, on the Bay of Bengal, and Oswego, in upstate New York, represent French victories from the "four corners of the globe," and allude to Louis XV's boastful title "orbis imperator," or "Emperor of the world."
