Damon Runyon (1884-1946) was a well-known writer and journalist whose stories of gangsters, actors and characters from the sports world were written in the colorful vernacular of New York City. "Guys & Dolls", written in 1932, was the first of several collections. It served as the basis for the successful musical created in 1952.
