A "FLYING MONKEY" TEST COLLAR FROM THE "WIZARD OF OZ,"
Metro--Goldwyn--Mayer,1939, The blue felt collar trimmed with white, black, and pink felt with a large multi--layered lightening bolt--type design made of gold, black, white, orange, and grey felt.

Note: This collar was designed by Gilbert Adrian. During the Wizard of Oz's long pre--production period, the "Flying Monkey" (or "Simian" suits) went through many changes. It is thought that the monkeys were originally to wear collars, but when it was decided to go with mechanical wings they found that the collars interfered with their movement, so the final "Vest" costume was decided on. The basting stiching around the neck indicates that this was a work in progress.
