Lot Essay

A pair of identical sauceboats by Samuel Burt is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, illustrated in Kathryn C. Buhler, American Silver vol. I (1972), figs. 238, 239. Silver by Samuel Burt is scarce, as he died at the age of 31 in 1754.
