A GEORGE III STYLE MAHOGANY PEDESTAL DESK
19TH CENTURY
In the manner of Thomas Chippendale, the rectangular leather-inset top with incurved corners over a fretted frieze fitted with drawers at either side and at the corners intersperced with foliate corbels, each kneehole flanked by panelled cabinet doors opening to shelves or drawers and with shaped sides on a plinth - 30½in. (77cm.) high, 72in. (183cm.) wide, 42in. (107cm.) deep
This desk follows the design of the right hand side of 'library table' illustrated in Thomas Chippendale, The Gentleman and Cabinet-Makers Director, 3rd ed., pl. LXXXII. This desk is a smaller version of the one formerly at Combe Abbey, Worcestershire.
