Lot Essay

The arms are those of Alexander impaling those of Bracken, for Josias du Pre Alexander, 5th son of John du Pre Alexander and nephew of the 1st Earl of Caledon, born in 1771. He was a Director of the East India Company and M.P. for Old Sarum. He married in 1808 Mary, daughter of the Rev. Thomas Bracken. He died in 1839.
