A LARGE AO-KUTANI DISH
EDO PERIOD (LATE 17TH CENTURY)

The shallow bowl set on an inverted, short ring foot decorated in green, yellow and aubergine enamels with a large central roundel of yellow grapes with green leaves set against a ground of aubergine dotted with black enamel, the roundel encircled by a wide band of black scrolling vine tendrils in turn bordered by a wider band of green patterned with black interlocking chevrons, the underside enamelled in green with scrolling flower sprays with yellow blossoms reserved on a ground of greyish white glaze, the foot unglazed, fuku mark in black and green enamel, faint hairline cracks- 13 1/2 in. (34.9 cm.) diameter
