The rectangular box and cover applied with square or rectangular horn panels painted in orange, green and brown highlighted with gilt with phoenixes, carp, deer, rabbits, cranes, dragons, peonies and other mythological animals surrounded by clouds and separated by narrow white-painted horn borders, the lid applied with twelve panels of a crested bird, crane, deer, another crane, elephant, another deer, dragon, tiger, carp, phoenix, sheep and turtle within a wide horn border, the interior lined in paper, the underside wood- 12 7/8 x 10 7/8 x 10 3/16 in. (32.7 x 27.6 x 25.8 cm.), losses and cracks, some panels warped, in fitted wood box
