Stylistically comparable to a painting of a Penitent Magdalene in the Luvre, exhibited in Les Vanités dans la Peinture au XVII Siècle, Caen and Paris, 1990-91, no. F.36, illustrated, wjere dated to 1620-30. Both paintings show the influence of Caravaggio and Saraceni.

The Caravaggism of the above lot is more pronounced than in the Louvre picture, and so it may be dated earlier.
