ONE OF SIX COPIES PRINTED ON VELLUM, WITH THE PLATES IN TWO STATES, PLAIN AND COLORED, THE COLORING EXECUTED BY PIERRE-JOSEPH REDOUTE AND HIS YOUNGER BROTHER HENRI-JOSEPH REDOUTE. 9 leaves of text and 6 engraved plates by Redouté and L. Fréret, borders and captions of the colored plates heightened in gold.
VERY RARE ISSUE of this "magnificent... monograph on the Dogwoods... the book stands first in iconographic history: five of the six plates head the lists in Stapf's Index Londinensis" (Hunt).
