2 vols., large folio, 553 x 376 mm., UNBOUND IN 8 FASCICLES AS ISSUED, original printed blue-gray bords, remnants of silk ties, uncut, some minor wear and staining to covers, 2 modern green quarter morocco gilt clamshell boxes, some foxing to text, occasional discoloration of plate sheets.

FIRST EDITION, LARGE-PAPER COLORED ISSUE (the regular paper issue was uncolored), one of 62 copies according to the subscribers' list in vol. 1 (amended here in pencil to total 65). 200 hand-colored lithographed plates by Wilhelm Sandler.

AN EXCELLENT COPY, in original publisher's boards, of one of the most important Brazilian florae, the companion and intended supplement to Martius, Nova genera et species plantarum (1822-1832). Pohl (1782-1834) "travelled in Brazil with Spix, Martius et al 1817-1821; afterwards curator at the Vienna Natural History Museum and the Vienna Brasilian Museum"(Stafleu & Cowan).
