3 parts in one, folio, 405 x 244 mm., contemporary half calf gilt over dark marbled paper boards, new spine label, extremities rubbed, B1 and 2 of first work with marginal dampstaining.
Mixed edition (as often) comprising the second edition of Manipulus I (contents: p. [i], [1]-94, plates 1-25), FIRST EDITION of Manipulus II (contents: p. [-i], [95]-197, [198, index], [1, errata], plates 26-50) and FIRST EDITION of Manipulus III (contents p. [i-iv], 199-280, plates 51-75), bound without title to Manipulus II as above. Engraved head- and tail-pieces by V. Bischoff, G.W. Knorr and J.C. Keller after N. Gabler, J.C. Keller and V. Bischoff.
The engravings are of flowering plants, mosses and mushrooms, and many show dissected specimens. There is much magnified anatomical detail reflecting the advances made in the fields of microscopy and taxonomy.
