DODOENS, REMBERT. Stirpium historiae pemptades sex, Antwerp: Christopher Plantin 1583. Folio, 351 x 225 mm., seventeenth-century dark calf, rebacked in reddish-brown calf, later endpapers, rubbed, boards worn, titleleaf and a few preliminary leaves creased and with light stains, mainly marginal, extreme margins lightly browned, margins of index leaves a bit frayed. FIRST LATIN EDITION. 1,309 botanical woodcuts (six of them copied from the Julia Anicia Codex of Dioscorides) by Arnaud Nicolai and Gerard Jansen van Kampen after drawings by Pieter van der Borcht, eight-line and smaller woodcut capitals, woodcut printer's device on title.
