Lot Essay

In 1926, Ruzzie Green, art director of the Stehli Silk Corporation,
commissioned Steichen to create a series of photographic designs for
silk dress fabrics. Of the various design elements he used, Steichen
felt one of the most successful was the one of carpet tacks. A popular design, it was one of the first sellouts of the Stehli designs for that year.
