Lyons: Balthazar Arnoullet, 1551. 16mo, 118 x 69mm, CONTEMPORARY LYONNESE CALF, panelled in blind with gilt corner and central ornament, rebacked preserving original gilt backstrip, edges gilt and gauffered, quire d precedes quire c, quire f precedes quire e and quire B is bound within quire kk, with blank leaves B4 and kk4. SECOND EDITION, FIRST ISSUE and the fourth use of the Boussy woodcuts. Printer's sea-horse device (Baudrier 6) on title, woodcut author portrait on title verso, 516 woodcuts of plants by Clément Boussy, the text comprises only the plant-names of each woodcut in Greek, Latin, French, Italian and German. A very attractive copy in a contemporary binding. This small-format edition was particularly well-suited to the miniature botanical woodcuts by Boussy commissioned by Arnoullet in 1547. The series is here aumented by six woodcuts.
