A VICTORIAN FIVE-PIECE SILVER TEA AND COFFEE-SERVICE, Birmingham, 1893, the sugar-bowl 1894, maker's mark of Frederick Elkington, comprising tea-kettle on stand (burner lacking), teapot, coffee-pot, two-handled sugar-bowl and cream-jug, each compressed circular, on rim foot, the sides engraved with broad frieze of stylized flowering foliage within strapwork panels on partly punched or matted ground, centering two sides shaped oval cartouche, one engraved with crest, with tubular scroll handles, the pots with slightly raised hinged cover, part engraved, topped by differing cast flower-form finial, with part engraved spout; the tea-kettle with raffia part covered overhead swing handle, on chained circular stand, with pierced shoulder, resting on four elaborate foliate scroll supports on shell feet, with openwork foliate scroll apron between--height of tea-kettle on stand over handle 15½in. (39.3cm.), gross weight 118.5oz.
